About this course
A 2 day, practical workshop on Proxmox Backup Server. You learn how deduplication and incremental backups actually work, how to encrypt data at rest, and how to build a restore strategy you can trust under pressure.
The class is dedicated to restore drills: you recover VMs, containers and individual files from a deliberately damaged datastore and learn what to check before you ever need to.
Agenda
- Backup concepts and Proxmox VE backup methods — Backup principles (full vs. incremental, the 3-2-1 rule) and an evaluation of Proxmox VE backup methods.
- Using Proxmox Backup Server — Install PBS, configure storage and networking, and use sync jobs, verify jobs and garbage collection.
- Advanced PBS features — Encryption and traffic control.
- Disaster recovery implementation — Set up a secondary PBS as a DR target, configure sync pull between sites, and restore VMs and containers.
- Automating and testing disaster recovery — Automate recovery for the DR site and build maintainable DR testing routines.
- Wrap-up & Q&A — Open questions and next steps.
