About this course
Moving off VMware is as much a planning exercise as a technical one. This workshop gives you a repeatable migration playbook: inventory your estate, map networking and storage, import workloads with qm importovf, and decommission the old platform cleanly.
You practice on a lab environment and finish with a working import of a real Linux VM, plus checklists you can reuse for your own estate.
Agenda
- Preparing the source system — Auditing and preparing the VMware ESXi environment and creating test VMs.
- Introduction to Proxmox VE — Architecture and storage backends — ZFS (local) and Ceph (distributed, vSAN replacement).
- Preparing the target system — Proxmox VE installation and basic configuration.
- Executing the migration — Connecting source and target, transferring and converting VMs, final adjustments.
- Wrap-up & Q&A — Open questions and next steps.
